This week I pushed Delta 400 film to 1600. And I used Rodinal again. Except, instead of semi stand development, I diluted it at 1 + 16. Inversion for the first minute. 3 rotation using the little stick from the Patterson tank every minute. Developed for 20 minutes. Followed by stop bath and fixer as usual.
I shot this roll under different lighting situations. The shots taken during the day are a little grainy for my taste. The highlights bloom in a funny way. I really like how the evening\ night\ interior came out though. More so than if I was doing a stand development. The grain is totally acceptable. The night shots were probably done at 1.8 and 1/60th.
I'm starting to fall off my rodinal craze. Yeah, it didn't last too long. I'm going to try it some more at 400 and 800 and see how the big the grain is. I think I would like something a little more fine. I'm starting to understand why people say Rodinal should only be used with medium format and larger. Unfortunately, I'm broke and only have 35mm on hand. That's fine though, I have some Ilfosol 3 and Xtol. So, many more combinations to experiment with. I wish to find a formula I really like by the end of the year and stick with it for a while.
I've started rolling my own film. I had a 100 ft of trix 400 in the fridge for the longest time and finally got around ordering at bulk loader. So you can expect to see me use this film a lot in the upcoming future.
